Abby Zawadzki, a standout athlete from St. Charles North, recently committed to playing softball at Ohio State. Her decision follows an intense recruiting period after initially committing to Ole Miss. This shift aligns her with familiar faces and opportunities in the Big Ten Conference.
Challenging Choices
After reopening her recruitment last September, Zawadzki chose Ohio State over Ole Miss following the NCAA’s new roster limits. The cap on softball rosters reduced from 35 to 25 players, affecting her initial commitment. With support and persistence, she embraced Ohio State’s offer, looking forward to reuniting with former teammate Sara Tarr.
Support and Opportunity
Zawadzki credits much of her successful transition to her coach, Lauren McNulty. McNulty, who coached Zawadzki and Tarr on the Dennison Silver Hawks, helped navigate the recruiting complexities. Her guidance, alongside proactive outreach, including attending camps and leveraging social media, played a critical role.

Strength in Stats
In her senior season with St. Charles North, Zawadzki posted a 12-0 record with a 2.07 ERA. Her offensive skills were equally impressive, batting .420 and hitting 11 home runs. These achievements earned her the title of 2026 Beacon-News/Courier-News Softball Player of the Year and a first team all-state honor.
Future Prospects
At Ohio State, Zawadzki will have the chance to both pitch and hit. Under Coach Kirin Kumar’s leadership, she looks forward to contributing to the Buckeyes’ success. Kumar expresses belief in Zawadzki’s ability to excel on and off the field.
