Fans of Jay-Z faced delays outside Yankee Stadium in New York on Sunday night. The concert by the popular rapper was set to start but was postponed due to safety concerns.
Ticket holders, numbering in the hundreds, were stuck outside the venue for hours. The delay occurred because people attempted to rush the stadium gates. This forced the closure of entry to ensure the audience’s safety.
Jay-Z addressed the crowd once the show began after midnight. He apologized to fans, emphasizing the priority of their safety. According to social media videos, Jay-Z mentioned, “There’s 10,000 people outside. I don’t want to start the music and people get trampled.”
The Yankees, Roc Nation, and Live Nation released a joint statement. It explained that groups without tickets had surged the entrances and some even breached security lines. The gates remained closed for an extended period due to this chaos.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) collaborated with the organizers. They reopened the gates cautiously to guarantee safety both inside and outside the stadium.
