Insight into Sen. Lindsey Graham’s Aortic Dissection

Fox News Senior Medical Analyst, Dr. Marc Siegel, shed light on the preliminary cause of death for Sen. Lindsey Graham, emphasizing a ruptured aorta due to cardiovascular disease. Dr. Siegel explained the rare and serious condition of aortic dissection, where a tear in the aorta’s inner wall can lead to a medical emergency.

Key contributing factors include high blood pressure and plaque buildup. Dr. Siegel advised on the importance of preventing health issues through regular check-ups. He stressed that Graham would encourage others to consider their health seriously.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., provided more details about Graham’s last moments. A former member of his staff called for medical help after Graham experienced chest pains upon returning from an overseas trip. Tuberville noted, “My former scheduler was Lindsey’s scheduler, and one of my staff members was with that scheduler the night Lindsey called.” Graham indicated he was feeling unwell but delayed seeking help.

A statement from Graham’s office confirmed that aortic dissection, driven by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, was the cause of his death. This condition involves a life-threatening tear in the major artery’s wall.

Tuberville remarked that Graham worked tirelessly, often engaging in efforts for the country even during personal downtime. He stated, “Lindsey basically worked himself to death. Most of us have families, he didn’t.”

In his final discussions, Graham conveyed his commitment to political objectives such as dealing with Russia sanctions and Israeli-Saudi normalization.

The news of Graham’s death deeply affected the Senate. Emotional tributes poured in when the Senate reconvened after the Fourth of July recess. His desk, formerly occupied by his close friend Sen. John McCain, was adorned with a black drape and white roses.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., expressed his condolences, saying the Senate halls felt notably empty without Graham. He added, “I am comforted by the knowledge that he has just changed his address.”

Darline Graham Nordone, Graham’s sister, was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to temporarily fill his Senate seat. In her address, she expressed the honor of continuing his work and her deep personal loss.
