The European Union (E.U.) has long aimed to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. Despite these efforts, recent policies have led to increased reliance on Russian natural gas.
In the first half of this year, E.U. nations purchased a record 9.89 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia’s Yamal LNG. This amount signifies an 18 percent rise compared to the same timeframe the previous year.
This development occurs amid ongoing attempts by the E.U. to shift towards greener energy sources, highlighting challenges in reducing reliance on fossil fuel imports.
Recent statistics indicate the difficulties faced by the E.U. in balancing energy needs while transitioning from traditional sources. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s involvement in energy discussions continues to influence the global energy landscape.
