A woman from South Florida received an unexpected surprise with her vehicle registration renewal: a license plate she found inappropriate. Nancy Dello Stritto, a resident of Pompano Beach and nearly 77 years old, was taken aback when she received a license plate reading “SQZ A55.” She expressed her shock to CBS News Miami, saying the message could be seen as crude.
Nancy stated, “I don’t think a senior who is almost 77 will be driving around with a plate that has that to say.” The reaction was so intense that she described going “ballistic” upon seeing it.
The plate has become a hot topic within her community. While Nancy is not pleased with the plate’s message, some family members and friends have encouraged her to keep it. The current vote among her acquaintances stands at 16-1 in favor.
It is still unknown how such a plate was approved. For decades, Florida’s license plates have been produced at a state prison in North Florida, then distributed through county agencies. Nancy’s plate was sent from the Broward County Property Tax Collector’s office.
CBS News Miami reached out to the office regarding this issue. An office manager clarified that Broward County is willing to replace plates considered offensive free of charge at their Plantation location. Despite this, Nancy currently plans to keep the plate. She does intend to inform the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles about it.
With a chuckle, she remarked, “I’m resigned to it; maybe it was destined for it to be on my car,” adding that she might even get a few honks from amused drivers.
