Alec Baldwin has faced criticism for his recent tribute to the late actor Sam Neill. Neill, known for his role in ‘Jurassic Park’, passed away on Monday, prompting Baldwin to share a nearly three-minute video on Instagram.
Baldwin’s video initially acknowledged Neill’s passing but quickly switched to discuss Baldwin’s own experiences. He talked about filming ‘The Hunt for Red October’, mentioning cast members and his feelings about the movie. Neill, who played Captain Vasili Borodin, was mentioned only briefly at the end. Baldwin expressed his condolences with, ‘My love to his family’.
Many viewers expressed disappointment with the tribute. One commenter noted, ‘I thought you were paying respects to Sam Neill’. Another remarked, ‘Not much of a tribute, Alec’. Despite the backlash, some fans defended Baldwin, appreciating his genuine style.
‘You always talk so calmly about those you’ve worked with,’ commented one supporter.
Sam Neill died suddenly at age 78 after recovering from cancer, surrounded by family. His family conveyed their immense sorrow in a statement shared on Neill’s Instagram page.
Nicole Kidman, who appeared with Neill in 1989’s ‘Dead Calm’, expressed deep sadness, calling Neill ‘one of the greats’. Toni Collette also paid tribute, remembering Neill as a ‘beautiful, decent gentleman’ and ‘a big-hearted king with a dry, hilarious wit’.
Collette shared a past photo of them together and wrote, ‘I love you, dear Sam. You hero. You legend.’
Neill was widely recognized not only for his acting talent but also for being a beloved friend.
