Teen Faces Murder Charge for Death of Young Boy on Chicago’s South Side

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a young boy on Chicago’s South Side. Authorities filed a first-degree murder charge against the teen, as announced in a Chicago police news release. The charge comes in connection with the death of 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head on May 21 in the South Chicago neighborhood.

McKeever, from the West Town area, was in critical condition when admitted to Comer Children’s Hospital. Sadly, after a week of treatment, he was pronounced dead. Police apprehended the suspect on Thursday in the vicinity of the 3000 block of East 79th Place in South Chicago. The teen’s initial court appearance is set for Saturday.

This incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about youth violence and safety in the area, prompting calls for community action and support. Residents are urged to assist police investigations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
