Levi Wallace: NFL Cornerback’s Retirement After Eight Years

NFL cornerback Levi Wallace, aged 31, announced his retirement, concluding an eight-year career that began when he joined the league as an undrafted free agent from Alabama. Wallace’s recent tenure was with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he spent the season on injured reserve, not appearing in any games. His last active game performance was with the Denver Broncos in 2024.

Wallace shared his retirement news via Instagram, with the statement, “Walk-on. Undrafted. 8 years. Retired.” This marked the end of a career characterized by overcoming odds, as he initially joined Alabama’s team as a walk-on under coach Nick Saban in 2014. During his first two years, he played on the scout team, but his dedication paid off, earning him a scholarship in 2016. By 2017, Wallace became a crucial starter for Alabama’s defense, contributing significantly to their National Championship victory.

In his standout 2017 season, Wallace achieved 48 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, three interceptions, and led the SEC with 15 pass breakups. Highlighting his ability to change games, he returned one interception for a touchdown.

Wallace’s professional journey began when he was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. He quickly made his mark, securing a role in the starting lineup in his rookie year, starting seven games. Over his four-year stint with the Bills, Wallace became a consistent presence, starting every game he played. His stats with the Bills include 219 tackles and six interceptions.

His next move was to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he started 18 out of 31 games across two seasons. Despite fewer starts, Wallace maintained his reputation for intercepting passes, with six interceptions during his time with Pittsburgh.

In his last year with the Denver Broncos, Wallace played in 13 games, starting twice, recording 28 tackles. Throughout his 96-game career, Wallace compiled impressive stats: 333 tackles, 56 pass deflections, and 12 interceptions.
