Dr. Mehmet Oz emphasized the importance of reducing healthcare costs to enhance the health and productivity of Americans. Speaking at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., Oz shared insights gained during his tenure in the Trump administration. According to Oz, high healthcare costs often result from poor-quality care, which necessitates fixing errors and managing complications.

He highlighted the need for a strong focus on quality within the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This includes disease prevention and promoting healthy behaviors like cooking nutritious meals at home. Oz stressed that healthcare interactions should provide value, moving beyond mere treatment to comprehensive patient care.

Technological advancements make high-quality care more accessible. However, Oz noted that less than half of Medicare beneficiaries utilize their free annual wellness visits, potentially leading to undiagnosed conditions and higher treatment costs. Ignoring these visits can result in a false sense of health.

Oz also discussed the economic benefits of improving national health. He projected that healthier individuals might extend their careers, contributing up to $1 trillion in economic value. These gains would bolster the GDP and enhance social programs.

Many Americans wish to remain active as they age, but concerns about physical capabilities arise. By focusing on health, Oz believes the nation can reduce healthcare expenditures while increasing economic output.
