Transgender Teen Arrested in Alleged Plot Against Hindu Temple

A 19-year-old transgender individual, Alexandros Paporakis, has been arrested for allegedly planning a mass shooting at a Hindu temple near Chicago. Authorities credit a coworker’s tip for preventing the potential attack.

Arrest and Charges

Paporakis, a resident of Palatine, was detained on Sunday after allegedly intending to attack a Hindu temple in Aurora with a firearm. He now faces charges including making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of a weapon. A Cook County judge has ordered that Paporakis remain in custody without bond and receive jail healthcare, highlighting the necessary hormone treatments for gender transition and management of ADHD, depression, and anxiety.

Events Leading to Arrest

“I want to praise and offer my personal, sincerest thanks to the individual who stepped forward in many successful disruptions by law enforcement and potential acts of violence or terrorism attacks.” – Lucas Rothaar, FBI Chicago Field Office

Authorities claim Paporakis equipped himself with a modified rifle, 300 rounds of ammunition, and body armor before driving to the Hindu temple. After his weapon malfunctioned, he returned home and allegedly consulted the internet to fix it. The suspect also reportedly informed a colleague of the plan, prompting the coworker to alert law enforcement.

Police Investigation

Using a tip, police identified a red Acura linked to Paporakis, which was caught on surveillance at the temple’s parking lot. Later, police observed him at a residence shared with his mother. A search uncovered firearms, ammunition, and tactical gear. Authorities also discovered an eight-page manifesto expressing violent ideology and targeting various ethnic groups.

Community Response

The Hindu temple has responded to the threat by enhancing its security measures. A statement on their website reassured the community of their increased safety protocols.

Paporakis is scheduled for a court appearance on October 30.
