In 2018, President Donald Trump aimed to bring the FIFA World Cup back to the United States, focusing not only on soccer, but also on creating a lasting legacy. His goal was to unite the nation, welcome the world, and demonstrate American excellence as the country celebrated its 250th birthday. He tasked me with a simple mission: “Make it the best tournament ever.”
During his second term, Trump formed the White House Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This made it clear that this initiative would involve the entire government. We aimed to provide the largest, safest, most welcoming, and memorable World Cup in history for fans, athletes, and communities across the country.
Reflecting on the achievement, only President Trump could have realized such an ambitious vision and motivated the nation to rise to the challenge. His experience in hospitality and meticulous attention to detail set a high standard and made this World Cup unforgettable.

The event saw more than 6.5 million fans attend matches across 16 host cities in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, nearly doubling the prior attendance record. In the U.S. alone, there were 11 host cities. Stadiums achieved a 99.7% attendance rate, and FIFA Fan Festivals attracted another 7.7 million visitors. Fans from over 150 countries experienced American hospitality firsthand, and the tournament amassed more than 20 billion video views globally.
Despite impressive numbers, the real success lay in the bustling city centers, flourishing small businesses, cross-cultural friendships, and unforgettable moments shared by millions. There were no major security incidents, a record-breaking economic impact, and a seamless fan and athlete experience. President Trump’s emphasis on safety and security yielded significant results, with federal coordination teams, $625 million in support for local law enforcement, and an additional $500 million invested in counter-drone technology.
Seattle’s Pioneer Square saw business sales rise by up to ten times the average while Philadelphia anticipated a $770 million economic impact. The enhancements in technology, training, and international partnerships are part of the lasting legacy. Close cooperation with Canada, Mexico, and FIFA demonstrated that no country is better prepared to host a large-scale event.
It was especially meaningful for President Trump, who championed the successful 2018 bid, to see his vision realized during his presidency. Few leaders witness their ambitions come to life on such a grand stage. The pride felt as the world came together on American soil will be unforgettable.
