Over 1,000 banknotes and coins worldwide display the image of a king or queen. Now, the U.S. joins in by featuring a living president, Donald Trump, on a new $1 coin. This move is confirmed by the U.S. Mint and the Treasury Department.
President Trump, who returned to office in 2025, has since become a prominent figure on various official items. His image now appears on federal buildings and national park passes. Adding Trump to the U.S. currency further extends this pattern.
‘Dead presidents’ is a common slang for cash.
However, this new coin challenges that notion by featuring a living president. Physical U.S. currency currently in circulation amounts to more than US$2.46 trillion, the highest it has ever been.
