Police in Germany are actively searching for a fugitive identified as Abdul B. He is suspected of driving a van into the Berlin Pride festival, resulting in one death and injuring at least 16 others.
The 21-year-old suspect has known connections to Islamist groups. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the manhunt continues in Berlin.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. local time on Saturday when a white van struck the crowd at the Pride event in Tiergarten Park. It hit several individuals before crashing into a tree.
Authorities reported the fatality three hours after the attack. There were also reports of injuries caused by stabbing weapons, and it is believed that one or more individuals fled from the vehicle.
The suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and white pants, with a slim build, approximately six feet two inches tall, and having black hair.
Police have advised the public to avoid direct contact with the suspect, warning that he may be armed and dangerous.
“The suspect is known to police,” stated police spokesperson Florian Nath. “Our search for this person is proceeding at full speed.”
Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the incident, stating on X that it was an abhorrent act in Berlin.
