Ryan Clark, a seasoned NFL analyst, has left ESPN after over 11 years with the network. The news was initially reported by OutKick, highlighting not just the dismissal but the circumstances surrounding it.
Clark received the information on Monday during a taping of ESPN’s ‘NFL Live.’ This notification came at a time when OutKick had already obtained the news and reached out to ESPN for comments. Sources suggest that ESPN timed the announcement during the taping to prevent OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske and Bobby Burack from breaking the story prematurely.
In his first public reaction, Clark accused ESPN of deliberately leaking the information to OutKick. This claim has sparked discussions, notably by Jason “Jah” Lee on ‘CNN This Morning,’ who suggested that Clark may have been a casualty of a broad “culture war.” Lee indicated skepticism about how OutKick obtained the information and speculated on potential motivation behind the leak.
OutKick, owned by Fox News Corp and founded by Clay Travis, is often positioned politically differently from ESPN. Lee proposed that ESPN, perceived by some as leaning liberal, might have deliberately allowed this situation for reasons connected to internal politics.
Clark joined ESPN in 2015, after a successful NFL career including a Super Bowl win with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Reports from OutKick’s Burack indicated that Clark earned about $2 million annually at ESPN, a figure considerably higher than the standard for NFL analysts.
