Universal Studios has issued a firm response following the unauthorized leak of its popular film, The Odyssey, over the weekend. The studio emphasized the seriousness of copyright infringement and stated it would pursue all necessary actions to safeguard its intellectual property rights.
On Saturday, a high-quality copy of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, was posted on social media platform X. This unauthorized copy garnered over 2.1 million views before a takedown notice replaced it. Variety reported that the post was shared at 2:25 p.m. Pacific Time, and the account responsible was suspended within three hours.
The Odyssey has proven to be a significant draw for audiences, attracting large crowds in its second weekend. The film’s popularity was evident as demand for advance tickets led to the crashing of AMC’s app in June, with reported wait times reaching up to an hour. According to Rentrak, a data analytics firm tracking box office performance, the movie generated $87 million in its second weekend.
