Meghan Markle’s recent Instagram post highlighted her children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, at Princess Diana’s childhood home. This move has sparked criticism, with experts calling it “tasteless.” Markle captioned the family’s U.K. visit post as “Summer Holiday.” One photo captures Prince Harry with the children on a grassy path, reportedly at Althorp, the Spencer family’s estate.
The photo shows Prince Harry and Archie carrying bouquets, hinting a visit to Diana’s burial site on the estate’s island. Royal expert Hilary Fordwich suggests Prince William might be “livid” with Markle for sharing photos from Diana’s ancestral estate. Fordwich noted the post’s commercialization of Althorp as “tacky,” predicting it might hinder Meghan and Harry’s reintegration into royal duties.
‘Not only is Prince William likely to be livid regarding such commercialization of Althorp in such a tacky tasteless media post, it’ll fuel his disgust so he shall thwart any major re-entry,’ said Hilary Fordwich.
Richard Fitzwilliams, another royal expert, suggested the Spencers likely permitted the Sussexes’ visit, making Markle’s post “permissible.” He highlighted the Duke and Duchess’s maintained silence following their meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla, emphasizing its importance for ongoing interaction.
Helena Chard, a British broadcaster, referred to Markle’s decision to share private moments as “predictable.” She viewed it as a way to connect the family to history without utilizing royal titles, yet noted the tension between publicizing royal ties and maintaining distance.
Recently, during their U.K. visit, Prince Harry and Meghan reportedly reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla. Fordwich noted King Charles’s desire for reconciliation with limited contact and private meetings, though Prince William’s stance may prevent their return to significant royal roles.
Fordwich criticized Markle’s actions, considering them “exploitative” due to the private nature of Princess Diana’s resting place at Althorp. Chard doubted that Charles’s meeting signaled a return to royal duties for Harry, pointing out the absence of an apology from the Sussexes as a barrier.
‘I doubt Charles will just let the Sussexes back into the Royal arena, especially as there has been no genuine contrition. A family reunion is one thing. A return to royal life is another,’ remarked Chard.
