It’s uncommon for three teams in the same conference to start without a win after five games, but that’s what the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, and Tennessee Titans are facing this season. According to ESPN, this marks the first time in 28 years such an event occurred.
The Dolphins find themselves in a rebuilding phase. A new coach and general manager signal fresh starts, so fans anticipated difficulties. Many wouldn’t be shocked to learn of a winless status by mid-October.
Cam Ward, Justin Herbert, and Malik Willis lead their respective teams. Expectations differed dramatically for the Titans and Chargers, though. Titans fans counted on competition in the AFC South, given Cam Ward’s second season and new coaching strategies.
In contrast, the Chargers were expected to perform better. New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, former Dolphins head coach, was believed to boost their offense. But with only 16.8 points per game, they rank 30th in NFL scoring, much lower than anticipated. Only Miami and Tennessee score fewer, at 14 and 11.6 points per game respectively.
While the Dolphins catch a break with a bye week, the Titans and Chargers face significant challenges ahead. The Titans will meet the Indianapolis Colts, and the Chargers go against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.
