The Iowa Medicaid Fraud Control Unit targets issues such as abuse, neglect, and financial fraud impacting Medicaid recipients.
On July 22, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds spoke at a news conference about this initiative. Recently, she and Attorney General Brenna Bird have made Medicaid fraud a top priority, especially with the 2026 election drawing near.
This new focus is surprising to those familiar with the system and experienced in fighting Medicaid fraud. This is because they have noted that the governor and attorney general have previously ignored effective tools available for addressing Medicaid fraud.
