The 2026 Booker Prize longlist has been revealed, showcasing 13 diverse books. These works span various genres, including thrillers, dystopian science fiction, and love stories. Notable authors Douglas Stuart and Marlon James make a return to the list. Stuart previously won the prize in 2020 with Shuggie Bain, while James claimed it in 2015 with A Brief History of Seven Killings.
Elizabeth Strout also appears as a third-time nominee with her novel, The Things We Never Say. Fresh talent is represented by three debut authors who have made it to the list. Mary Beard, who chairs the Booker Prize 2026 judges, praised the authors. She stated that their work showcases extraordinary ability to transport readers to new worlds and offer fresh perspectives.
The Booker Prize annually honors an author for a book published in English in the U.K. and/or Ireland within a specific timeframe. The 2025 award went to David Szalay for his novel Flesh. For this year, six shortlisted authors will each receive £2,500, equivalent to about $3,300. The winner, to be announced on November 9 in London, will receive £50,000, slightly over $66,000.
