Washington Commanders supporters faced a frustrating Monday morning after a tie game against the New York Giants. Jayden Daniels ran out the clock in overtime, forgetting his team had no timeouts, missing a chance for a game-winning field goal.
Magic Johnson, who has a stake in the franchise, expressed his disappointment on social media. He criticized the team’s clock management, highlighting the missed opportunity to win the game with a field goal.
“I’m in total disbelief my Commanders had such poor clock management in today’s overtime game against the Giants,” Johnson wrote.
The Commanders were ahead 27-13 after Daniels’ 26-yard touchdown run. However, the Giants’ quarterback, Jameis Winston, leveled the game with two touchdowns, ending 27-27.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn admitted responsibility for the confusion in overtime. “The sequencing of that does not fall on [Daniels],” explained Quinn. “It’s an outside throw or a clock — that has to come from me.”
The outcome leaves Washington with a 1-3-1 record. The game showcased both missed opportunities and challenging play decisions as the Commanders seek improvements moving forward.
