Ukrainian forces targeted two significant Russian oil refineries in overnight operations. This move is part of Kyiv’s effort to ramp up economic, military, and diplomatic pressure on Moscow. The recent strikes set fires at a Lukoil refinery in the Perm region, about 900 miles from Ukraine, and another in Ryazan, roughly 180 miles from the border. Ukraine’s Security Service and General Staff confirmed these occurrences. The targeted refineries reportedly produce around 220 million barrels of oil annually, significantly supporting Russia’s military and government revenue. However, independent verification of these claims remains unavailable. Ryazan’s governor, Pavel Malkov, mentioned that six individuals were hospitalized following a drone attack. The attack caused fires at unspecified industrial sites.
Wildberries, a major Russian online retailer, evacuated its Ryazan facility. No further details were provided. Despite Russia’s advanced air defenses, its large territory is challenging to protect comprehensively. The recent attacks followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington. He discussed obtaining additional American support for Ukraine’s resistance against Russia.

Additionally, Ukrainian military units have successfully struck over 200 Russian vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov in recent weeks. The General Staff reported other successful attacks on Russian military infrastructure, including a radar station, a drone launch site, and strategic bridges.
In response, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down 295 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions. Meanwhile, Russian glide bombs targeted Kharkiv and 17 other locations, injuring 11 people, according to Oleh Syniehubov, head of the regional military administration.
