Nick Sauer’s Resignation and Legal Troubles
In 2018, Illinois 51st District state Representative Nick Sauer resigned following accusations from an ex-girlfriend. She alleged Sauer shared nude photos of her with other men via Instagram, using an account he opened under a false name. These claims led to complaints filed with both the Chicago Police Department and the state legislative inspector general. By 2019, Sauer faced 12 felony charges for posting private sexual photos online without permission. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, received a 90-day jail sentence, and was placed on 24 months’ probation.

Mike Singletary’s Hall of Fame Induction
In 1998, Chicago Bears linebacker Mike Singletary was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Known for his outstanding defensive skills, Singletary was celebrated as the NFL’s most valuable defensive player in both 1985 and 1988. Over his 12-year career, he missed only two games, started 172 games, and averaged over eight tackles per game. Singletary was also recognized with selections to 10 consecutive Pro Bowls.
2012 Drought Disaster Declaration
The year 2012 saw extreme drought conditions across Illinois, leading to 98 of the 102 counties being declared disaster areas. The warm winter of 2011-2012 combined with little snowfall and sparse spring rainfall contributed to the shortage. According to the Illinois State Water Survey, the statewide average precipitation for 2012 was just 30.4 inches, significantly below the 1981-2010 average. Chicago experienced only 26.91 inches of rain, 10.95 inches short of normal levels.
