Her performance helped the Fever maintain their strong form, winning nine out of their last eleven games and consistently scoring over 100 points.
Joining Clark in scoring prowess, Kelsey Mitchell also contributed 26 points. The Fever’s offensive strength allowed them to widen the gap in the third quarter, establishing an 18-point lead and entering the final quarter at 90-72. Makayla Timpson added to the lead with a decisive layup as the fourth quarter commenced.
The Fever’s consistent scoring kept them ahead, despite efforts from Bridget Carleton of the Fire. She scored 26 points and played a key role in narrowing the deficit during the fourth quarter.
Carleton’s three-pointer brought the Fire close at 98-88 with just over four minutes remaining. She further decreased the margin with a layup, making the score 100-93. Ultimately, the Fever held firm, with Caitlin Clark converting crucial free throws, sealing the victory at 110-96.
Off the court, a pregame rally at the Moda Center gained attention. Participants supported Sophie Cunningham’s recent remarks on transgender athletes in women’s sports. The rally mirrored a previous event before the Fever’s win against the Seattle Storm. Despite facing boos from the crowd for her stance, Cunningham contributed 13 points, including a notable three-pointer early in the game.
The match attracted a sellout crowd, setting a new attendance record for the Portland Fire with 19,959 spectators. The Fever will travel to Minnesota for their next game, while the Portland Fire will host Los Angeles.
