Ohio Representative Max Miller has addressed claims of abuse made by his ex-wife, strongly denying them and affirming his candidacy for the November midterm elections. He voiced his distress over the allegations in a Sunday livestream. “I’ve been depicted as an abusive husband, father, and violent individual. These claims have harmed my reputation, caused substantial distress to my family, and most significantly, impacted our daughter,” he stated.
Miller emphasized the upcoming election’s significance, noting it is crucial not only for the Republican Party but also for his family values. He expressed his intention to hold individuals and media outlets accountable for spreading these allegations.
“I’m not withdrawing from this race, and I intend to win in November,” Miller asserted.
The controversy arises as Miller, a two-term congressman for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, faces increased scrutiny over allegations by his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, amid a contentious legal battle. Although he denies accusations of abuse towards Moreno and their daughter, Miller has not been charged criminally.
Moreno, daughter of Republican Senator Bernie Moreno, recently pursued a restraining order to prevent Miller from contacting her attorneys. CBS News and other outlets have reported Moreno’s claims that Miller harassed her legal team. Miller has refuted these allegations, pointing out his continued joint custody of their daughter as indicative of ongoing court disputes over the claims.
Miller has sued Moreno for defamation, asserting that false claims are damaging his reputation and reelection chances. He seeks damages and accuses Moreno of portraying him as “a violent and abusive husband and father.” Moreno’s representatives have dismissed Miller’s portrayal of the situation.
This issue has political ramifications. Reports indicate Democrats view this situation as an opportunity in a district Miller narrowly won with just over 51% of the vote. Some Democratic lawmakers have called for either his resignation or an ethics inquiry. Conversely, Republican leaders remain supportive, although former President Trump’s advisors are reportedly tracking developments closely.
Miller, a former aide in Trump’s White House, was first elected to Congress in 2022. He and Emily Moreno were married that year, sharing custody of their daughter.
