Ariana Grande has decided to step away from an upcoming stage musical in London. Production companies announced that Grande plans to take a break from the public eye due to the stress of constant media attention.
Grande was scheduled to star alongside Jonathan Bailey in Stephen Sondheim’s “Sunday in the Park with George” at the Barbican Centre in 2027. Empire Street Productions confirmed her withdrawal, acknowledging the difficulty of her decision and expressing their support.
“We understand Grande’s decision and fully support her choice,” the company stated. They assured that the production will proceed next summer, with new casting details to follow.
A Grande representative told People magazine that the singer intends to reduce her public presence after completing the Eternal Sunshine Tour. The 33-year-old looks forward to concluding the tour positively before taking a needed break from public engagements.
The representative did not specify reasons for the decision, although Grande’s appearance and health have made headlines lately. The release of her “Petal” music video intensified public scrutiny as she depicted an aspiring artist facing repeated rejections.
Grande previously addressed comments about her appearance in her 2024 song “Yes, And?” with lyrics emphasizing her autonomy over her image. Following a surge of related comments in 2023, Grande posted a viral TikTok video advising kindness and understanding toward others. “You never know what someone is going through,” she reminded viewers.
Grande’s current tour is set to conclude in London on September 1. Beginning her career on Nickelodeon, she released her debut album “Yours Truly” in 2013. Over the years, Grande has earned three Grammy Awards and received an Academy Award nominee for her role in the musical “Wicked.”
