In a recent development, transgender federal employees have taken legal action against the Trump administration. The issue centers on a directive given to insurance carriers to remove gender transition care from federal employee insurance plans.
The lawsuit was filed on Monday. It argues that the administration’s move violates civil rights protections under Title VII, which prevents sex discrimination. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is supporting the five workers involved in the case.
The lawsuit draws parallels between the denial of gender transition treatment and the refusal to provide necessary insulin treatment to diabetics.
In January, the Office of Personnel Management had instructed insurance providers to eliminate coverage for gender transition care. This action prompted the backlash and legal response from the affected employees.
The case highlights the ongoing debates and legal battles over civil rights and healthcare coverage for transgender individuals in the workplace.
