A Kansas mother, Britagne Miller, faces significant health challenges after a suspected spider bite. The incident led to surgery, infections, and an extended hospital stay. Miller, a mother of four from Goddard, Kansas, was camping at Cheney Lake with her family when spiders reportedly bit her.
Within days, one bite on her calf became painful and swollen. Seeking medical attention, Miller was admitted to Wesley Hospital in Wichita. Her pre-existing blood-clotting disorders, liver problems, and allergies complicated her treatment. Infections and end-stage liver failure developed, leading doctors to caution her family about the severity of her condition.
Miller’s husband, Jake Miller, shared updates through a GoFundMe page. He detailed her continued recovery at home following her hospital release on July 11. Miller now requires home health care, physical therapy, and specialist visits. Although she hopes for a liver transplant, she has not yet been placed on the transplant list.
Dr. Raymond Cloyd from Kansas State University identified brown recluse and black widow spiders as common in Kansas. He recommended sealing home cracks and being careful with undisturbed items like boxes and shoes.
The Miller family continues to hold hope for her recovery, focusing on her goal of returning to family life. The family could not be reached for further comments.
