For the first time in recent memory, there is no definitive focal point for the band’s community. This prompts a significant question: Where does the Deadhead community move forward from here?
Earlier this year, NPR Music contributors Isabella Gomez Sarmiento and Felix Contreras embarked on a journey seeking answers to this question. During the ‘Days Between’ — a period from August 1, when Jerry Garcia was born, to August 9, the anniversary of his death — a series of stories, interviews, podcasts, and additional content is being released. These materials explore the enduring allure of the Grateful Dead and offer insights into how fans and musicians committed to preserving the band’s legacy plan to continue its progression.
