LeBron James aims to make more NBA history as he signs a two-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, marking his 24th season in the league. Joining his fourth team, James is set to play alongside newcomers Jaylen Brown, one-time MVP Joel Embiid, and scoring powerhouse Tyrese Maxey, positioning the 76ers as strong contenders in the Eastern Conference.
James seeks to achieve a unique milestone; no player has won an NBA championship with four different teams. Currently, he is among the few who have won with three teams, joining John Salley, Robert Horry, and Danny Green in this achievement. While his move to Philadelphia garners attention, James’s legacy with the Los Angeles Lakers is already generating discussion.
Shaquille O’Neal recently spoke about James’s impact on the Lakers, acknowledging his contribution to their 2020 NBA title, won during the Disney ‘bubble’. O’Neal mentioned, “He definitely won a championship there and was a big game player, so he’s in the building.” However, O’Neal hesitated to place James in the “top floor” of Lakers legends, occupied by Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
“Kobe and Magic played there longer, and Magic was the first guy to bring that ‘set.’ LeBron will probably always be under those guys, but that doesn’t take away from what he’s done in the game,” O’Neal added.
While reflecting on James’s potential in Philadelphia, O’Neal expressed concerns about the team’s dynamic. “If you look at that roster, it could be legendary or dangerous. The dangerous part is I’m worried about Maxey and Brown, because Embiid is going to want the ball, and LeBron loves having the ball,” warned O’Neal. He noted that Brown and Maxey often control the ball late into the shot clock, which could pose challenges when sharing it with James and Embiid.
Off the court, O’Neal indulged his love for cereal, partnering with General Mills to launch a contest offering cash prizes and a hangout with him. “I eat cereal because it brings out the kid in me,” O’Neal shared, recounting how he recently enjoyed Lucky Charms while watching “Stranger Things Chapter 3.” O’Neal, branding himself as a cereal expert, says teaming up with General Mills was “a perfect fit.”
