Gas Prices Influenced by Policy Decisions, Not Oil Companies

Gasoline prices are determined by the interplay of supply and demand, a basic economic principle. Recent developments, however, have brought attention to how government decisions in Washington, D.C. shape these prices more than actions by companies like ExxonMobil or Chevron.

President Donald Trump focused his criticism on major oil companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil for their substantial profits during the ongoing conflict with Iran. In a notable financial performance, Chevron posted quarterly earnings of $12.1 billion, while ExxonMobil recorded $14.5 billion, nearly twice their profits from the previous year’s second quarter.

This highlights the significant influence of political decisions on the energy market. While oil companies continue their operations, policies enacted by the government play a significant role in shaping market conditions and, consequently, the prices consumers pay at the pump.
