Real Madrid has finalized an agreement with Leipzig for the transfer of Ivorian international Yan Diomande. The Spanish giant announced on Thursday that the 19-year-old forward will join the club for the next seven seasons.
Diomande impressed during the World Cup, attracting interest from several Premier League teams according to reports. Despite Leipzig’s initial stance that he was not for sale, a deal was reached.
Ivory Coast exited the World Cup after losing to Norway in the round of 32. Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, praised Diomande’s carefree attitude, willingness to learn, and bravery from the start. Schäfer highlighted Diomande’s speed, dribbling skills, and goal-scoring threat, which solidified his status at the highest level.
Schäfer stated that the club felt proud that Diomande’s performances garnered significant international attention. Reports indicate that Paris Saint-Germain also expressed interest in signing the young forward.
It remains uncertain whether Diomande will initially be registered with Madrid’s B team. Real Madrid’s first team has undergone a transformation following a disappointing end to the last season. New signings under the management of José Mourinho include playmaker Bernardo Silva, central defender Ibrahima Konaté, right-back Denzel Dumfries, and left-back Marc Cucurella.
