A police official from suburban New York has been implicated in allegedly driving the getaway vehicle for her son’s gang-related shooting. Jennifer Lackard, 49, and her son Chase, 20, were apprehended by the New York Police Department, linked to a drive-by shooting targeting rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court.
Before her arrest, Lackard served as the deputy commissioner of wellness at the Mount Vernon Police Department. She is facing accusations of driving the getaway car while her son carried out the alleged shooting. Mount Vernon, where she was employed, is situated just north of New York City and borders the Bronx.
Lackard and Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard share a connection as Delta Sigma Theta sorority sisters, as reported by the New York Post.
In her role at the police department, Lackard was responsible for initiatives such as police reform, civilian complaint review board implementation, and officer wellness. Prior to joining the department, she had not worked in law enforcement, but she engaged in community work, including leading the Station of Hope prison re-entry ministry and organizing the Re-Entry Meetup in Westchester County since 2015.
“Lackard brings a wealth of knowledge and resources to the City of Mount Vernon,” stated the city upon her hiring.
She has also been involved with the Westchester County Probation Advisory Board and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice Implementation Task Force.
The City of Mount Vernon has terminated Jennifer Lackard’s employment, stating the allegations do not relate to her responsibilities within the police department or her official duties.
NYPD officers continue to investigate the shooting incident, during which Chase Lackard was injured by police gunfire.
Fox News Digital reached out to Patterson-Howard and Delta Sigma Theta for comments. Attorneys for Jennifer and Chase Lackard have not responded to inquiries.
