An altercation occurred at the Cleveland Browns training camp between pass rusher Jared Verse and rookie offensive tackle Spencer Fano during practice on Saturday. Zac Jackson of The Athletic reported that Verse threw several punches during the skirmish as both players went to the ground. Teammates intervened to separate them, yet both athletes quickly returned to participate in the subsequent play.
Fano, chosen as the Browns’ No. 9 pick from Utah in the 2026 NFL Draft, received high praise as one of the leading tackles in his draft class. Despite the earlier incident, he impressed fans by successfully blocking Verse during the next play. This was the team’s second confrontation since the start of training camp, with another clash happening on August 1 involving several players.
In related news, the Raiders disciplined Maxx Crosby and Kirk Cousins for rule violations. As for Verse, now 25, he became a part of the Browns following a significant trade that sent NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
Recently, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal highlighted the mentorship Verse provided to Fano since his arrival at camp. Fano spoke highly of Verse’s assistance in improving his skills. “He’s so good,” Fano praised, acknowledging Verse’s coaching and corrections during numerous practice reps.
The Browns enter a season full of potential as they attempt to improve upon last year’s 5-12 record. However, challenges remain, including on-field disputes and an ongoing quarterback competition between Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson, who returns from injury. Regardless of the starting quarterback, Fano plays a vital role in the team’s revamped offensive line. Meanwhile, Verse remains a key player in replacing the defensive void left by Garrett’s departure.
The Browns will face the Chicago Bears in their first preseason game on Saturday, August 15. Their regular season kicks off on Sunday, September 13, with an away game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
