During Saturday’s practice, the Washington Commanders experienced a significant setback. Laremy Tunsil, a five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle, suffered a torn triceps while participating in one-on-one pass-rush drills. Tunsil, who started 14 games in the 2025 season, will need surgery, according to a report by NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
The injury is severe enough that Tunsil is likely to miss a large part of the regular season. The possibility exists that he may not return at all this season. Despite initial comments by Garafolo suggesting there was not much concern within the organization, the gravity of Tunsil’s injury soon became apparent after tests confirmed the extent of the damage.
The Commanders now face the challenge of rearranging their offensive line to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels was sidelined for a significant part of last season due to knee, hamstring, and elbow injuries. Andrew Wylie is expected to take Tunsil’s place at left tackle. Meanwhile, Josh Conerly will cover the right tackle position, with Sam Cosmi at right guard, Nick Allegretti as the center, and Chris Paul at left guard.
Tunsil recently signed a two-year contract extension worth $60.2 million in March, underscoring his value to the team and making the loss even more impactful.
