Trinidad Chambliss’ progress during the 2025 college football season became a notable highlight. Initially a backup to Austin Simmons at Ole Miss, his breakthrough came when Simmons got injured. In his first start against Arkansas on September 13, Chambliss threw for 353 yards with a touchdown, leading to a 41-35 victory. Additionally, he contributed 62 rushing yards with two touchdowns.
Throughout the season, Chambliss accumulated 3,937 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. His ground performance included 527 yards and eight touchdowns. These efforts propelled Ole Miss into the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Lane Kiffin, the former head coach of the Rebels, was praised for identifying Chambliss through the transfer portal and fostering his development as a quarterback. However, some within the Southeastern Conference (SEC) debate the extent of credit Kiffin deserves. An SEC coach shared with ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg skepticism over Kiffin’s acclaim, stating that Chambliss is inherently skilled.
Following Kiffin’s move to LSU, Chambliss delivered impressive results. He threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns as Ole Miss triumphed over Georgia with a 39-34 win in the College Football Playoff (CFP) quarterfinal. In the subsequent semifinal against Miami, Chambliss recorded 277 yards and a touchdown in a 31-27 loss.
Looking ahead, a matchup on September 19 will see Kiffin’s LSU team face Chambliss and Ole Miss. Kiffin’s new challenge involves nurturing Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt. If Leavitt achieves numbers similar to Chambliss, it could further validate Kiffin’s ability to develop quarterbacks.
For Chambliss, excelling outside of Kiffin’s scheme could bolster his draft prospects for 2027, affirming his status as a leading college football quarterback.
