MariLuz Roth, a mother from Long Island, has shared how her identical twin daughters, Maple and Fiona, find comfort in each other before sleeping. The twins were recorded chatting, reading, and cuddling until they naturally fell asleep facing one another. For MariLuz, a developmental specialist, this sight is profound because it reflects how they interacted in the womb.
“This is how they fall asleep most nights,” MariLuz explained to Newsweek. “It feels like their natural setting.” She mentioned that despite the heartwarming routine, there is no secret method behind it. “Every family is different, and parents should do what feels right,” she advised. However, she stresses the importance of a consistent, predictable routine, which she believes benefits all children.
Their nightly routine begins after dinner when the twins say goodnight to their father. They then engage in reading and conversing, which could extend as the family discusses pictures, answers questions, and creates stories together. “Most nights they spend time talking, playing quietly or reading before sleeping,” MariLuz noted.
The twins have shared a close connection since birth. Initially co-sleeping with MariLuz, they moved to their own room at about ten months old. Their cribs were placed side by side as they favored proximity, often sleeping with hands entwined through the rails. As their language skills and independence grew, their comfort evolved.
“There wasn’t a singular moment they began helping each other sleep,” MariLuz said. “It developed naturally.” The baby cam footage she shared on Instagram (@doublethemilestones) went viral, garnering 1.3 million views. Comments on the platform describe the routine as “precious” and “beautiful.”
At just over two years old when recorded, MariLuz was moved by her daughters’ instinctive care for each other. “I wanted to nurture it rather than interrupt,” she said. “Their emotional awareness continues to amaze me. They comfort and celebrate each other and are happiest together.” Inspired by witnessing this bond, MariLuz began documenting their lives online.
“Capturing these moments might remind people of genuine innocence, empathy, and love,” she expressed. “In a world filled with negativity, I hoped these moments offer something gentle and hopeful.”
