During high-stakes midterm campaigns, Democratic strategist James Carville has joined host Kayleigh McEnany to address Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s alliance with controversial Twitch streamer Hasan Piker. Carville voiced concern that the far-left wing could negatively impact the Democratic Party, citing El-Sayed’s recent primary victory with 51% of the vote.
Piker, known for provoking reactions, previously suggested that America deserved the 9/11 attacks. He praised Zohran Mamdani’s aide, Cea Weaver, who has historically shown controversial sentiments, including advocating for the impoverishment of the White middle class. Piker recently ridiculed liberal comic Bill Maher’s skepticism toward socialist platforms and countered Maher by expressing admiration for the boldness of Mamdani’s team.
Piker, whose background often displays a framed newspaper from September 12, 2001, interrupted Maher’s comments about Weaver’s extreme views. Piker’s enthusiasm for Weaver, described as operating in ‘beast mode,’ aligns with his perception of her as part of a group cooler than Mamdani himself. Maher had previously mocked this approach, emphasizing scare tactics in politics.
Cea Weaver, a Democratic Socialists of America member and housing activist, now leads the New York City Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants. Her comments have drawn criticism, even from Mamdani’s predecessor Eric Adams, for showing privilege and detachment.
Abdul El-Sayed, while labeling Piker’s past comments on 9/11 as ill-considered, continues to side with Piker and other far-left figures. Piker has connections with various left-leaning personalities and continues to be a vocal advocate for socialist principles. His ongoing exchanges with Maher involve disputes over perceptions of communism and historical contexts.
Bill Maher recently mentioned JD Vance’s willingness to reconsider his Democratic support in 2028 due to the potential embrace of socialism. Piker, however, refutes Maher’s claims about his stance on China’s history under Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, emphasizing that these regimes’ narrative was misrepresented.
Maher had described Piker’s influence on the far left as significant, but criticized his seemingly favorable view of historical communist regimes. Piker defended his statements, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remark regarding the USSR’s dissolution as a major geopolitical disaster.
