Paris Jackson Shares Insights on Her Upbringing with Michael Jackson

Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, spoke about her unique upbringing under the famous pop star. Despite their larger-than-life world, Jackson enforced rules to help his children maintain a sense of normalcy. He ensured they completed homework and chores before enjoying weekend activities, limited their television and movie viewing, and masked their identities in public. This approach was designed to protect them from the intense spotlight of his fame.

In an interview on ‘Call Her Daddy’ with Alexandra Cooper, Paris explained how her father would allow fun outings only if they fulfilled their responsibilities. ‘If you’re good, and you do your chores, and you do your homework, you can go see some animals, ride some rides, and go to the movies on weekends,’ she said.

The rules were consistent no matter where they lived, whether in Las Vegas or a small town like Virginia. The attractions at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch were meant for underprivileged and terminally ill children, not for his family. This reinforced the idea that rewards were earned through responsibility.

The use of masks in public was another method Michael used to shield his children from public attention. This allowed them to enjoy ordinary activities without being recognized. Paris understood the purpose of these masks, acknowledging they allowed them to ‘be normal this weekend’ at places like Chuck E. Cheese.

Paris realized her father was immensely famous, although she did not initially grasp the full extent of his celebrity. Observing crowds of fans outside hotel windows highlighted that their experience was not universal, but a result of her father’s massive fame.

Following Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, Paris Jackson pursued a career in entertainment as a model, actress, and musician. Her debut album, ‘Wilted,’ was released in 2020 under Republic Records. Her brothers, Prince and Bigi, have also established careers in the entertainment industry.
