The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, will step down from her position at the end of August. President Trump announced this decision on Truth Social, highlighting her move to become a key outside adviser.
Leavitt recently had her second child, a girl in May, and is transitioning to spend more time with her family. She explained her choice to leave her role by expressing the importance of being present for her young children while acknowledging the demanding nature of her duties as press secretary.
President Trump praised Leavitt’s contributions since she joined the White House in 2018. He emphasized her leadership during his re-election campaign in 2024 and called her one of the best press secretaries in history. Her influence on the Republican Party remains significant as she takes on her new advisory role.
The White House has yet to announce who will succeed Leavitt or who will take on the press secretary duties temporarily. Leavitt’s tenure began at the start of President Trump’s second term, where she became a trusted aide in the administration.
In her announcement, Leavitt expressed the challenge of balancing her responsibilities as press secretary with being an attentive mother. She committed to continuing her support for MAGA and the Republican Party as she embraces her new chapter.
