David Henrie Embraces Faith After Monastery Visit

Former Disney star David Henrie recently shared how he moved away from the secular Hollywood lifestyle. He attributed a transformative shift to a visit to a monastery.

Appearing on Raymond Arroyo’s podcast, “Arroyo Grande,” Henrie explained that his friendship with actor Kevin James guided him toward faith. Henrie had been immersed in a relativistic, materialistic lifestyle that left him feeling empty. This change began with an invitation to St. Michael’s Abbey in Orange County in 2012.

“I started changing my whole perspective on life and faith,” Henrie said. He felt a “craving” for an objective belief system, contrasting with the partying lifestyle in Hollywood.

Henrie used the “bubblegum theory of pleasure” to describe fleeting satisfaction. He noted that just like consuming gum, the pleasure disappears quickly, leaving one feeling worse.

During his visit to the abbey, Henrie learned about general confession. He wrote a detailed book for the priest there, exploring his newfound faith.

Henrie’s experience at the monastery led to significant relief. He connected his first monastery visit to his documentary series, “Seeking Beauty,” which explores Italy’s rich art and culture. This series premiered in January on EWTN+, with the second season set in Spain.

Kevin James played a vital role, introducing Henrie to the monastery experience that led to his spiritual transformation.

The series highlights Henrie’s exploration of deeper meanings found in diverse cultural expressions.
