Scottie Scheffler Dominates at FedEx St. Jude Championship

Scottie Scheffler showcased his skill at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, securing victory by eight strokes over Si Woo Kim. After enduring five runner-up finishes this season, his win in Memphis, Tennessee, was a relief. Scheffler expressed his joy to CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis.

“I’ve had some close calls this year. I felt like I was playing pretty well, but small things weren’t in my favor,” Scheffler remarked. A stroke of bad luck occurred when his shot hit a sprinkler and landed in water. Yet, he maintained focus.

“Going into today, I aimed to do my best and execute,” he said. “I managed to stay on track and relaxed.”
Scheffler hadn’t won since the American Express Golf Tournament in January. He finished second at the 3M Open, Cadillac Championship, RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship, and The Masters this year.

Balionis noted this was Scheffler’s best statistical season. He shared, “I think I’ve been consistent. Outside Amex, I didn’t play as well early in the year. I battled my swing a bit but stayed consistent.” Scheffler expressed pride in his perseverance.

“It’s satisfying to win this week. Statistics are one thing, but winning is another,” Scheffler admitted.

The victory marked Scheffler’s second of the season and the 21st career PGA Tour win. Notably, he is the third-youngest golfer to achieve 21 wins, trailing only Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.

Claiming the St. Jude Championship positioned him at the top of the FedEx Cup standings. Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young are 1,447 and 1,690 points behind, respectively. This win suggests Scheffler might have rediscovered his form after numerous close finishes this season.

He aims to conquer the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, next week for the BMW Championship.
