Trinidad Chambliss made noteworthy strides as a Division II star at Ferris State, evolving into a prominent quarterback at Ole Miss last season under Lane Kiffin. Chambliss now eyes the opportunity to become a top prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft with a solid performance this fall.
With Kiffin now coaching at LSU, he has found a quarterback who might enhance his draft stock this season. Sam Leavitt has joined Kiffin’s team, transferring from Arizona State. Leavitt led Arizona State to a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024, although his performance dipped in 2025 due to a foot injury.
According to Jordan Reid of ESPN, some NFL scouts and evaluators believe Leavitt has the potential to rise from a Day 2 prospect to a first-round pick if he excels at LSU. Reid highlighted Leavitt’s desire to recover from a challenging 2025 season and how his quick-footed, dual-threat abilities align well with Kiffin’s scheme, which helps develop quarterbacks efficiently.
In his 2024 season, Leavitt recorded 2,885 passing yards, achieved 24 touchdowns, and made six interceptions. Despite his foot injury last season, he managed a 5-2 record as a starter, ending the season with 1,628 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Earlier in August, Leavitt stated he has returned to complete health, though he maintains a regimen of foot exercises before games. Kiffin expressed his satisfaction with Leavitt’s tremendous improvement during training camp, noting the quarterback’s significant progress since spring practice when he couldn’t balance his weight on the injured foot.
Leavitt is expected to have better support at LSU compared to Arizona State. His performance will be key in leading LSU to the College Football Playoff this season. A successful run by LSU could significantly boost Leavitt’s prospects for a notable moment on draft night.
