Sixteen teenagers are now facing charges of trespassing following their arrest at the closed Congress Theater in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. The Chicago police reported the incident, which took place on a Friday night. The arrests occurred almost a week after a police action put a stop to an unsanctioned rave held at the theater.
Among those arrested, two teens were also found with replica firearms and received additional citations. The event unfolded around 8:15 p.m. when officers responded to reports of criminal trespass. Several teenagers attempted to evade arrest but were eventually detained.
The previous weekend, the abandoned theater had hosted a rave organized by DJ Kula, known locally for underground events. DJ Kula has a history of holding unsanctioned parties in various unconventional locations throughout the city. Previous sites have included the Jackson Red Line station, the empty Portage Theater, and the demolished Damen Silos.
According to a report from Block Club Chicago, the rave at Logan Square attracted hundreds of attendees. Meanwhile, the Congress Theater remains an attraction for “urban explorers” who frequently post on social media about exploring its dark, deteriorated interiors.
