Visit of US Central Command Chief to Middle East
Admiral Brad Cooper, the top US military commander in the Middle East, visited the USS Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. This visit occurred during his regional tour that concluded on Saturday. The USS Lincoln, deployed since January, supports US operations against Iran, including the blockade of Iranian ports. It has been at sea for over 240 days, the longest time without docking.
Cooper expressed the significance of this deployment, stating it was intense and consequential. Concerns have been raised about prolonged deployments affecting the mental health of sailors and supply issues. During his tour, Cooper also visited Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, engaging with military and civilian leaders.
US Navy’s Response and Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Control
The US Navy’s actions relate to Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global oil and gas trade. The confrontation began on February 28 with US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Talks between the US and Iran have stalled, while Iran is in discussions with Oman about managing the strait.
Gaza Ceasefire Talks in Cairo
A Hamas delegation, led by Khalil al-Hayya, engaged in Gaza ceasefire talks in Cairo with Egyptian officials. Al-Hayya emphasized Hamas’ intent to follow the US peace plan to alleviate Gaza’s suffering and initiate reconstruction. Mediators aim to implement a roadmap for disarmament and power transitions, but Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu rejected the plan without full disarmament of Hamas.
In parallel, US negotiator Jared Kushner met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. Discussions focused on the obligations under the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Hezbollah Commanders Targeted by Israel
