U.S.-Canada Deal Halts Imminent Tariffs on Canadian Goods

The United States and Canada reached an agreement just hours before new tariffs were to be imposed. This eleventh-hour deal prevented the initiation of a 50 percent tariff on select Canadian products, including beer and cheese, that was announced last month by President Donald Trump. The tariffs were scheduled to go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday.

The pause in implementing these tariffs will last three days, allowing both countries to finalize the terms of their agreement. Without this resolution, tensions between the U.S. and Canada, an important trading partner, would likely have increased significantly.

Products such as cheese from Canada, as denoted by labels seen in grocery stores across British Columbia, were directly affected by this trade decision.
