The Auburn Tigers have welcomed a new addition to their wide receiver lineup. Tray Taylor, previously with Coastal Carolina and Troy, is now part of the Tigers’ roster. The announcement was made through a video shared by Jeff Shearer, a senior writer at AuburnTigers.com.
Taylor’s size has become a topic of conversation. Sports Reference lists him at 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds. However, Auburn’s assessment seems more accurate at 5-foot-6 and 150 pounds, based on fall camp footage.
Fans have shared their thoughts on social media. Comments range from humor to amazement. One comment from @WilliiamHBonney read, “Thought this was a coach’s son practicing for fun.” Another, from @tracey_lynnee, added, “Mighty mouse!”
Despite his small stature, Taylor has the potential to make a significant impact. During his time at Troy, he caught 30 passes, accumulating just under 500 yards and securing three touchdowns. Taylor also carried the ball 10 times for 52 yards and scored again. His experience includes returning kicks and punts, notably at Coastal Carolina.
Taylor’s journey began at Tyler Junior College, where he earned recognition as a second team JUCO All-American in 2023. There, he caught 39 passes, gaining 850 yards and scoring nine touchdowns, as reported by Peter Rauterkus of AL.com.
Auburn faces a gap in their lineup. Duke Smith left the program in June after violating team rules, and the Tigers are rebuilding under new coach Alex Golesh. “If nothing else, Taylor gives the Tigers better numbers in practice, but was a contributor for Troy last year,” Rauterkus noted.
With Cam Coleman transferring to the Texas Longhorns, Auburn needs contributors to emerge. Although Taylor will compete for playtime at Auburn, his consistent performance in previous roles suggests he can deliver. He has risen from junior college to a prominent college program, aiming to excel in his current opportunity.
