Young America’s Foundation (YAF) is joining forces with the ‘Reagan’ movie to feature sets and props from the biopic. These items will become part of a permanent exhibit at a new museum in Dixon, Illinois. This initiative extends YAF’s commitment to preserving Ronald Reagan’s legacy, already evident at Reagan’s Boyhood Home in Dixon and the Reagan Ranch, also known as Rancho del Cielo, in Santa Barbara, California.
The museum, anticipated to open in 2028, will showcase a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, the Situation Room, the office of the Soviet leader, and the wall of the Hilton Hotel where Reagan was shot. Hundreds of film artifacts will also be on display.
YAF President Scott Walker emphasized the educational value of the museum. Over the years, many students and families have visited Dixon to learn about Reagan. Walker believes the museum will deepen understanding of Reagan’s journey from actor to president.
Bringing down communism, bringing patriotism back to America, and revitalizing our economy,
Walker said, emphasizing Reagan’s achievements. The exhibits will include virtual and photographic elements, allowing visitors to feel connected to Reagan and his ideas.
Mark Joseph, producer of the ‘Reagan’ film, praised YAF’s preservation efforts in a press release. He aims for the museum to bring Reagan’s life stories to those visiting Dixon. The premiere of ‘Reagan’ in 2024 drew a large crowd, reflecting local pride in their native son. Dennis Quaid, who played Reagan, participated in the event, highlighting the connection to small-town America.
Walker anticipates significant interest in the museum. He recalls the strong local turnout for the movie premiere and Quaid’s involvement.
Walker shared Reagan’s humble beginnings with students, explaining Reagan’s family struggled financially due to his father’s alcoholism. Despite this, Reagan’s mother maintained community involvement and pursued further education.
Walker notes Reagan’s humility remained throughout his career. He conveyed to young people that one doesn’t need wealth or prestige to achieve the American Dream.
The museum announcement coincides with the impending release of the director’s cut of ‘Reagan,’ featuring additional footage, set for nationwide release on September 25. Reflecting on the original film’s reception, Walker pointed out the divide between critics and audience scores. The film received a low critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, contrasting with a high audience approval rating.
