Trump’s White House Ballroom and Controversy with Preservation Group

Construction progresses rapidly on a new White House ballroom. President Donald Trump described this upcoming venue as a place for guests to enjoy cocktails before events. The project also features military-designed bomb shelters and other security enhancements, extending five stories underground.

Trump Details on Ballroom

President Trump provided a glimpse of the site’s development, including a helipad being constructed on the South Lawn. He detailed how guests would transition from arriving by car, to enjoying cocktails outside, and then accessing the ballroom. Trump noted that even the military would benefit from using the facility due to its extensive security features.

“Even the military, they can use it like that,” Trump stated, referring to the included drones and bomb shelters. He also mentioned a meeting with military officials who saw potential in the project, describing it as extending down nearly 65 feet.

Legal Challenges

A federal appeals court has halted the ballroom project, ruling that Trump does not have the authority to proceed without congressional approval. The administration argues that previous presidents have made significant White House changes without seeking approval, claiming Trump’s actions align with established traditions. The Supreme Court’s stance on Trump’s appeal remains pending.

The Trump administration’s Supreme Court filing states about 250 workers are laboring up to 20 hours daily on the project, reported to be two-thirds complete. Trump expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would allow construction to continue, despite ongoing legal battles.

National Trust and Security Concerns

Trump claimed that the lawsuit from the National Trust for Historic Preservation forced information disclosure that might otherwise remain confidential. Trump has shared details about the facility’s underground infrastructure, framing the project as both a venue and a security enhancement.

“They revealed Top Military Secrets!” Trump asserted, targeting the Trust for allegedly disclosing sensitive information.

Trump insisted that the new complex would include a rooftop “DronePort” and that its combined ballroom and security infrastructure serves a crucial role in protecting presidents and senior officials. Security aspects include sniper positions, missile-resistant construction, and deep underground facilities.

Trust’s Response

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has not responded directly to Trump’s accusations. Previously, the Trust denied accessing detailed plans for the underground structure, stating that officials withheld specific information in public court claims.

Gregory Craig, representing the Trust, labeled the administration’s assertions of risk to Trump’s safety as “incorrect and irresponsible” in communication with the Justice Department.
