Democratic Strategist Criticizes Sen. Jon Ossoff’s Remarks on Trump

A prominent Democratic strategist from the Obama era has criticized Sen. Jon Ossoff’s recent comments about President Donald Trump. The Georgia Democrat, rising in his re-election campaign, attracted attention for his remarks targeting Trump. Ossoff criticized Trump for his role in the conflict with Iran and the deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East. However, his criticism extended to Trump’s executive assistant, Natalie Harp.

During a campaign appearance, Ossoff stated, “While the sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, he fruitlessly drains our munitions and oil reserves. The president sleeps through meetings, golfs, and trades stocks,” he continued. “He doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.” This drew a strong reaction from Trump and his supporters and criticism from David Axelrod, a senior advisor to former President Obama.

Axelrod praised Ossoff’s prior arguments against Trump as “eloquent,” but believed mentioning Harp was unnecessary. “The section of his weekend speech that gained attention was a harsh critique,” Axelrod expressed on X. “But adding ‘with Natalie’ seemed unnecessary.” He suggested the campaign might have amplified the video clip’s virality, which received over 6 million views on X.

Rep. Mike Collins, Ossoff’s opponent, echoed Axelrod’s views. “Attacking a young female staffer to gain political points with his base is disgraceful,” Collins stated. “Prominent Democrats calling him out highlights this.” In response, social media figures like Joanne Carducci countered Axelrod’s stance, terming Ossoff’s mention of Harp as “genius.” “Politics have evolved since your time,” Carducci said on X.

Ossoff also acknowledged the White House’s reaction, with Trump comparing him to “Pee-wee Herman,” and coming to the defense of the White House’s ballroom construction. During an interview on MSNOW, Ossoff remarked, “no one cares about their feelings.” He observed the White House’s significant reaction over the past week and emphasized, “White House staffers are adults, public officials paid by taxpayers with significant power.”
