South Carolina Senate Debate Highlights Tensions Between Candidates

Senator Darline Graham from South Carolina and her Democratic challenger Annie Andrews faced off on Sunday night during a heated Senate debate. Libertarian candidate Kasie Whitener also participated.

Graham expressed concerns about what she termed ‘socialist Democrats.’ She highlighted the contrast in reactions following the tragic events of October 7th, 2023, when Hamas terrorists attacked Israel. According to Graham, Democrats in New York reacted inappropriately.

“Annie Andrews will not stand up to the socialist Democratic Party. She’s only going to join them,” Graham asserted during the debate.

Responding to these accusations, Andrews insisted that she was ready to challenge her own party when necessary.

“I told you my opponent was going to call me a socialist, and there she’s done it again,” Andrews stated. She highlighted the repeated comparisons made to Senator Bernie Sanders, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The real difference between me and Sen. Graham is that I will stand up to my own party and I will always put South Carolina first. She seems to believe the job she has right now is… to read their scripts and do their bidding. And we can do better.

Graham responded to accusations regarding her name, clarifying her identity.

“My legal name is Graham and has always been Graham,” she stated, sharing personal history about keeping her family name for a sense of connection after losing her parents.

Following Senator Lindsey Graham’s passing, Governor Henry McMaster appointed Darline Graham to complete her brother’s term in the U.S. Senate.

President Donald Trump supports Sen. Darline Graham in her bid for a full six-year Senate term.
